Sligo City

Sligo Museum

A good place to see the archaeology or indeed the history of Sligo. You will also find there objects which belonged to the poet W.B Yeats.

Sligo Abbey

The abbey of Sligo is a Dominican monastery which was built in the 13th century. The site contains many sculptures, including a Gothic tomb, a tomb of the Resurrection and a carved furnace bridge of the 15th century, the only one to be preserved. It is open from June to September and guided tours are organized on request.

Walks

It is a very pleasant city as a whole and it is good to stroll along the River Garavogue so you can observe the fauna. The ideal place to start is from Hyde Bridge.

Sligo Art Gallery

Located in the Yeats Commemorative building at the Hyde Bridge, this gallery was founded in 1977. Its goal was to provide exhibition opportunities for all the forms of art. The gallery accommodates fifteen to twenty principal exhibitions each year.
